Our Story

We fell in love at first sight. Eighty-five acres on a hillside in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, with beautiful views, a peaceful setting, and great wineries and restaurants all around. Call us crazy, but what better place to start a new adventure!

Once we bought the property, there was a lot to do. We named our property Quandary Vineyards after Quandary Peak, one of Colorado’s 14,000-foot mountain peaks. It’s our little homage to Colorado in Oregon.

The fields had been planted in cover crops, and we needed to turn them into a vineyard. One spring morning, we stood in the field and watched a skilled crew plant our first Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vines. They planted faster than we could have imagined, yet every vine was handled with care. It was pretty exciting to watch our vineyard take shape.

As the vines grew, we worked on the rest of the property. We built one new home and rebuilt the original house on its existing footprint. Both sit among the vines with views across the valley. We made them guest homes because we wanted people to experience truly being here. You can relax, walk the vineyard, watch harvest, and see firsthand how much work goes into making a bottle of wine.

Today, we have more than 50 acres of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Gamay, and Pinot Meunier. We’ve worked hard to take care of the land, earning LIVE, Salmon-Safe, and Bee-Friendly Farming certifications, generating our own solar power, and expanding our pond to capture winter rain for the summer landscaping.

There’s always work. We mow, pull weeds, and cut back blackberries. We drive tractors and dig ditches. Whatever needs doing. And we enjoy it. There’s something about being outside and working with nature that feeds the soul.

Along the way, we’ve met some wonderful people—neighbors, growers, and winemakers who have shared their knowledge and become good friends.

In 2022, we had the privilege of partnering with Ken Wright, one of the world’s most respected winemakers. The wines he makes from Quandary Vineyards fruit have become favorites among those who taste them. Our single-vineyard Pinot Noir even has a special home at Hearthstone Restaurant in Breckenridge, where you can enjoy a glass while looking at the mountain that inspired our name.

Until now, Quandary Vineyards wines have been available exclusively through the Ken Wright Cellars Wine Club. Because of the enthusiastic response, Ken and his team have graciously helped us create the Quandary Vineyard Friends & Family Wine Club. We’re excited to share these wines with you and welcome you into our vineyard family.

We’ve always loved what happens when people gather around a great bottle of wine. The conversation gets a little easier, dinner lasts a little longer, stories are told. We hope that wherever you open a bottle of Quandary Vineyards wine—whether it’s on our deck or around your kitchen table—you have a reason to slow down and spend time with the people who matter.

We’re grateful to have you along for the adventure.

Cheers!
